  People may deny feeling sorry for Poncelot because sympathizing with a murderer is an uncomfortable thought. But you don’t have to sympathize with someone to feel sorry for what’s happening to them. Dead Man Walking portrays the tragedy of the death penalty without forcing a particular viewpoint, leaving the audience to decide for themselves whether such a punishment is justified.
