    very enjoyable compact thriller. when it's firing on all cylinders (ie. the wonderful dinner scene), it's great. the way the conversations are written have so much meat on the bone + well-timed revelations. i can't help but wish this was maintained througout. though i wasn't expecting a spectacle, i couldn't help but feel like after all the teasing, the climax was simply too short and too underwhelming. but for what it is, it delivers. i could never hate a film…

    a little bit overstuffed but undeniably charming nonetheless. nasha unexpectedly becomes the emotional core of the whole damn thing. i know a lot of people here have said they struggled with the third act but i unfortunately will always love optimism and the idea that those who wish to create a future with compassion will win out eventually.

    kind of like a romantic encounter where in the lone you have a lot of fun but in the aftermath you are left feeling devoid of anything really lasting. this would’ve probably benefited if it just committed more to the black comedy/kinky thriller part instead of trying to say anything about women in power tbh. very tame and muzzled and leashed etc. for a film about pet play. even though nicole kidman’s character says something has to be at stake the movie is too afraid to let her actually lose anything in the end. she mothered though
