Definitely one of Lynch’s most confusing films and, for me, one of his most tense and unnerving. Especially near the end, my god.
There’s a whole lot of enjoyment to be had just discussing this film and what it means. Lynch is really good at making his films linger in the back of your mind for weeks after you’ve seen them.
David Lynch really was a master of ambience. Lost Highway is one of the closest representations I’ve seen in film of the fragmented, hazy and surreal nature of dreams.
One thing Lost Highway makes clear is Lynch’s love for music; the soundtrack is impeccable and there are a multitude of music references throughout the movie, for example, for fans of Black Flag, Henry Rollins makes an appearance in a minor role here.
This movie was made exactly how it should have been made. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t down to watch it again.
You know what, this was a pleasant experience and I think I learned a valuable life lesson: there’s nothing wrong with being different (British).
