The first three quarters were really good -- good character work, good pacing, great insight into the how behind live broadcasting. Those little details, the procedure of it, was honestly the real draw -- the shots of setting up subtitling, more than the attack.
But the emotional climax of the movie -- Mason's decision whether to go forward and report the fate of the hostages -- felt unearned. Nothing in the character's actions up to that point made it feel…

The exteriors? Kyrgyzstan is beautiful, and the filmmakers did not shy away from showing it off.
The interiors? The Winter Palace looked more real than the actual Winter Palace does today.

Very smooth editing between the doll and the patient at the end, but it was very clear -- despite using discreet limb pieces -- that the saws and glue brush never actually touched or went through the things they were meant to be working.
