Far too often we see films like this that spin the space race into a propaganda piece where the only moral of the story is; “USA! USA! USA!”
This film took me off guard by completely subverting that expectation, with a realistic perspective on the trials and tribulations of the people involved in the achievement of one of the greatest feats of humanity. With flying colors, this film succeeded in putting the man behind the small step and mankind behind the giant leap.

I really believe that pointing out the fact that you're basically just remaking another movie and poking fun of that fact doesn't excuse that you are JUST REMAKING ANOTHER MOVIE...
This is the kind of movie that you can hate every single time you see it yet you will watch it over and over again because there is something so intriguing about it. Like watching a house burn down. It's awful and depressing and makes you feel bad afterwards. But in the midst of it you can't help but stare in awe.
As wholesome as it was predictable, everyone got a chance to be better than what they were before and everyone who had any sort of adversity got their moment in the spotlight. The irony of the film however was not lost on me, that irony being the narrative that "it's okay to be mean to someone as long as their lives are 'easier' than yours and they were mean first" the villain got their comeuppance and everyone was happy... the end.
