I would say Robert Eggers' biggest concern while planning and directing this movie were the details. They are everywhere: from the cold blue tone that appears along with Ellen's face right in the beginning, to the period-accurate language spoken by the characters, to the clothing... The attention to detail extends to the very last moments of the film, where a cross of light falls across Willem Dafoe's character's left cheek, and the flowers that Ellen asked Thomas to kill are…

This is a very lazy review, but here it goes:
The high point of the movie is the cinematography. Mesmerizing. Everything looks so beautiful and well done. The story somehow reflects the cultural disputes of current society within the Church's boundaries. It's nice, and the script was apparently written to allow these discussions to not appear so caricatured.
