  I’ve always found this world such a confusing but brilliant creation by Ridley Scott. The constant darkness and lack of association to anything remotely comfortable is perfect for the story that is told. The way Rutger Hauer stands out with his starkly bright appearance against the grimy background is genius yet terrifying as he feels so out of place, which only adds to the fear invigorated by his presence. There’s vague similarities to many other films, eg the Fifth Element, but the overall feeling you get from watching Blade Runner is unlike anything else.
