Lost in Translation 2003
Bill Murray’s line “you never will” made the whole film better than it ever could be. In other words, bill murrays perspective on the film is the most real one (it was his idea to say that). Poignant yet transient relationships with what are ultimately strangers. His age and experience allowed his character to see that over scar joes. Both felt as deeply for one another it’s just that bill is older. The age is right in its goodbye but the youth is also right in its hope. It’s the ultimate dichotomy of youth and wisdom using love as the muse to show this.

Some poignant moments. The scene with the director was my favourite, transcendent and inspiring. Beautifully shot. Editing was a bit jarring at times. Would’ve preferred it if the films first act wasn’t so long, though, it didn’t feel like mindless filler. The writing could have woven some of its philosophical quotes and ideas a little more subtly as opposed to characters just reciting things maybe?
