Short Term 12 2013
For a film with a 96 minute runtime, I could talk about “Short Term 12” for hours, it is a breathtaking piece of art, that left me devastated yet hopeful as the credits rolled. This is made even more incredible by the fact this is the first feature length film from director Destin Cretton. This is based off a short film of his that he made 5 years earlier. Fantastic acting by lead actors Florence Pugh and Jack Reynor. A compelling and heartbreaking opening 20 minutes that the rest of the film can never quite hold up to. Ari Aster’s second feature has a very similar pace to his first “Hereditary”. The elevation of events and horror are far more seamless and natural here.
