I've given it a lot of thought, mostly because this is a fascinating movie and maybe not the type of movie I'd expect to garner Baker significant mainstream appeal. Is it pure boutique populist fluff? Or are it's strange rhythms and manic set-pieces specifically designed by Baker to achieve a new type of crowd-pleaser? Compared to the rest of his work, it certainly makes sense on the premise and structure alone. Anora is still a humanist 'Sex Worker tale',…

Shyamalan has always existed at the center of film conversation, through ill-advised racial jokes or his supposed infamous fall from grace, going from Spielberg heir to hackneyed studio auteur. In recent years, whether through his prolific self-funded productions or his constant celluloid passion in the age of digital laziness, his films blend into sort of a strange zeitgeist. Sam Mendes once said that “the best American films are made by foreigners”. Paris, Texas is the defining example of that sentiment. Directed by Wim Wenders, Paris, Texas eschews multitudinous genres. It is a road movie, a western, a mystery, and even a romance. However, at its core Paris, Texas is an American movie. More specifically, a film about America. Presented through the solemn eyes of a man lost in time, Paris, Texas explores America’s emotional…

Early impressions - an extremely funny and darkly comedic show when it wants to be. Never quite deep and absorbing enough when it needs to be.

    Update:
What an incredibly underwritten and underwhelming show. Nothing but a pastiche of the human condition and no number of oddball imagery and glossy direction can save it.

Production design and performances are top notch though so... it’s fine.
