… The speech given by Toshiro Mifune in which you discover he is not what he seems is one of the greatest monologues in film history. Even in a language that is not my own, the emotion of his words seems to come from deep within him, as though they were being held in by a damn that has finally broken.
Without the constraints of time, Kurosawa creates a story that is told not shown, where everything happens how it should, when it should.
