  not very good, but I feel like Truffaut got pleasure from making a movie out of a fundamentally stupid premise. maybe the appeal of the film is in pretending that you identify with the characters finding books more enticing than they really are. how in mimetizing the characters' love for books we find ourselves in a tonal space that is equally capable of being romanticized and undermined
