Harakiri 1962
Watched this ages ago, forgot to log it.
Honestly I don't know if I can give this movie a rating. That one scene (if you've seen it you know it) is entrancing in how horrific it is, and honestly almost made the movie for me, but it feels like it's doing its own thing and shouldn't be graded on some numeric scale.
I think I loved it? I definitely liked it, it's just not what I was expecting.

The Brutalist 2024
Sweeping, beautiful, and bleak.
It felt like it was only a two hour movie, despite it being almost four hours (including the intermission). I have never watched such a long movie that doesn't feel long at all.
Each performance is full of pain - they don't need to throw in flashbacks to the war, you can see it on their faces. The soundtrack is magnificent, and the lighting is stark, natural, and mesmerising.
The best American epic since There Will Be Blood.
