Incredible achvievement. Extremly impressive use of sounddesign and archival footage. I was shocked to find out the budget of this film was only 10 million dollars. I will think about this for a while.

This gives me the striking visual prowess of all of eggers' films. Immaculate lighting, great performances all around and very much a worth successor to the original. Sadly the sounddesign really takes me out sometimes, because it is very much fighting for the viewers attention to a point, where a more minimalistic approach would have remained closer to the german expressionism of the original. The lighthouse funnily enough comes much closer in this aspect. Still a very good, very impressive movie, but slightly below Eggers previous work

Loved the use of color throughout. Very tense, gritty experience with excellent sounddesign and great acting.

Militarism is an endless performance of a dance someone else put on and no one gets to decide when it's time to stop. You just go on with your menial, useless tasks and you don't stop, forever. No one gets to hand you water. No one gets to leave, not even to take a piss. No one is honorable, even if they save lives and care for others. Not even if they do everything they are told without question endlessly. Something has to be off. There is no ideal, there are no heroes. Whoever claims to be will be destroyed.
