City of God 2002
Film was incredibly powerful. I loved its chapter-style storytelling that allowed each character to be thoughtfully and intentionally built up. It was both heartbreaking and incredibly tuff to see those little kids evolve into ruthless crime lords. In addition, each character contained so much nuance and I understood the reasoning behind their intentions, even Lil Z. Overall, the amazing storytelling, cinematography, dialogue, and character development made City of God’s depiction of life in its slums feel so real and its call for change that much more pressing.
