Maybe I was in an odd emotional state since I watched this while high but I didn’t feel very bad for the protagonist and instead was just frustrated at him (I should probably give him more slack since he was just in middle school). If I sympathized with him more then I’m sure this movie would be a 4.5 or 5 star film, and I understand what other people see in it though.

if i were to rate this from the perspective of it’s intended audience (children), it would easily be a 5/5. The 10 year old in me loved this movie, and had a flood of happy nostalgia from all of the references in the movie. if i were to rate this from a movie critic perspective, i’d give it a 3.5/5. the lack of character development given its runtime and the numerous plot holes annoy the cinephile in me, but the kid in me had a blast with this film.
