Reading reactions before watching this movie made me think it’d be about the downfall and villain arc of Paul Atreides, but it’s not. Everything he does on the course of the film makes sense and feels right. Paul is the ultimate protagonist, likable at every turn. And yet, you can’t help but feel sad as he ascends, and as you - as he does - realize his dark fate.
