This seems to be the year of Director's Cuts.

Generally, I prefer theatrical versions of movies to the director's "vision". They usually end up too bloated and full of scenes that Mr. Director just didn't want to see end up on the cutting room floor.

I watched There's Something About Mary director's cut earlier this year and it was better than the theatrical. That was surprising. Now after watching Kingdom of Heaven Director's Cut I'd say it's also a…

I thought I'd be thinking of Anakin Skywalker the whole time I watched this, but I actually got into it. Hayden Christensen does a good job, but the people who have constantly said this performance "proves he can act!" are probably just women who have a crush on him and Star Wars fans. The poor guy just can't seem to act with his eyes at all. Maybe that's why he was cast as young Darth Vader.

I was surprised by Peter Sarsgaard's performance. Felt like you weren't supposed to trust him in the beginning and then feel bad for him later on. Went according to plan.

First 45 minutes were pretty good, then it became somewhat of an unintentional comedy. It was kind of entertaining at that point in a different way.

As the old man says about The Kramer painting in Seinfeld:
"He is a loathsome, offensive brute. Yet I can't look away."

I've had a memory since I was five or six of a movie I watched where a guy is running in a silver tracksuit and arm wrestling a fry cook until his nose bleeds.

Over 20 years later and a guy at work tells me to watch Vision Quest since it's his favorite movie. I pull it up and lo and behold I see Matthew Modine running in a silver tracksuit and a few minutes later arm wrestling a hotel fry cook.

20th anniversary and in time for Star Wars Day

Watched with George Lucas/Rick McCallum commentary.

I've always wondered why Obi-Wan is holding Anakin's lightsaber when Anakin is choking him on Mustafar. Always assumed it must have been a mistake. Should have just listened to the commentary years ago, since George Lucas directly addressed it.
He says there was a scene that was cut where Obi-Wan disarms Anakin and gets ahold of his lightsaber.

All those years of fruitless Googling, wasted.…

Finally got around to watching this so that I've seen all the Pixar movies up to 2010. I think it would have worked better as a short film.

Strange movie, but I've been on enough cross-country road trips to relate to James Marsden's character looking for answers out on the highway.

Have to say, though, this movie has some of the worst ADR I've seen (or heard). It was pretty obvious almost every time they're driving that the dialogue had been replaced.

The subplot with Jennifer Tilly's character was the only thing interesting in this movie, and it probably had a grand total of maybe seven minutes or so. The rest of it was so bad that I wondered if the director was asleep half the time and the actors just made it up as they went along.

Also, there's an almost 1950s cutesy atmosphere to the movie, so shoehorning in "Truly, Madly, Deeply" over the "love scenes" and end credits just felt off for some reason. And I love that song.

I get what they were going for here, and I think it works pretty well. The whole time, though, I felt like I was waiting for a punchline or climax that wasn't really there.
