Engaging from start to finish, Whales direction is enthralling with edits, cuts and shots I would never have expected to see from a film nearly 100 hundred years old. All though almost a buzzword at the point this film really does feel years ahead of it’s time. Everything about the design of the invisible man character is perfect, from the casting of Claude Rains to the lavish dressing gown wore. True cinema!
This seemed like something that would have either worked as a 10 minute short or a full feature. But instead what we are left with is an awkward 20 minutes filled with unfulfilled potential.
I actually really enjoyed it... I don’t understand all the negative reviews. I wasn’t overly excited at all for this film but I was invested the whole way through. All the performances were great and the humour did land for me more often then not. Also the best score of 2021 so far.
