Nosferatu the Vampyre 1979
Watched this in preparation for the new one. Kinski steals the show as Orlok. He’s appropriately unsettling, but also tragic and pathetic. In fact, Orlok is kind of an incel in this one. The movie explores the effect centuries of isolation have had on him. Also I REFUSE to call him Dracula. He is a bespoke character.

The Apartment 1960
I like this movie quite a bit. Jack Lemmon is expressive and charismatic as C.C. Baxter, and Shirley MacLaine is similarly spectacular as Fran Kubelik. Their performances portray a sense of longing for something greater. This longing is fulfilled by the love they kindle. One small issue: I think the movie fumbled some greater themes. Instead of the predatory hierarchies of corporate America, the movie says more about bad men. I don’t think my complaints are worth much, however. I…
