The “troubled Hungarian” character becomes a lot easier to sympathize with when he’s navigating life as a postwar refugee in America instead of bringing plague and terror to Wisburg in 1838.

A Taxi Driver 2017
This felt like a movie that all South Korean 8th graders are made to watch in school... a story that needs to be told and sensationalized to appeal to all generations.

Speak No Evil 2022
Incredibly well written, weaving societal norms, cross-cultural relationships, and (increasingly less subtle) power dynamics into one script.
Speak No Evil's protagonists live and breathe the classic horror trope of ignoring warning signs until it's too late, but that's practically the moral of their story. Until a certain point, it's done believably, but I think that point is different for everybody.
It perfectly fits into the "this movie is excellent, but I'd never recommend it to anyone thanks to its genuinely traumatizing ending" category.
