The writing and the movie as a concept is fine, but Clementine is written so poorly. She’s the standard “insufferable female character” and “manic pixie dream girl” written through the lens of a man. I think a lot of men have an image of their dream girl that is not at all what women are like in real life, and when they realize that they view it as betrayal and build a resentment towards women. I think you can see that when Clementine is written to be horrific compared Joel.

my favorite movie i’ve seen this year!! miyazaki always does an incredible job showing how traumatic childhood can truly be as children are thrown into a world and have to experience such intense emotions for the first time. just truly a charming, thought provoking, and stunning movie. i will be talking about this film endlessly.
