I love Laika studios. Coraline terrified me as a child. It’s got the magic of a fantastical children’s movie but ends up being absolutely terrifying in the end. I just saw the movie in theaters in 3d which was awesome. The movie no longer scares me but I felt bad for the kids in the audience and the parents who weren’t expecting a scary ending. That being said, I like the movie now that it doesn’t scare me (I run up the stairs at lighting speed when I turn off the lights)
This felt more like a disaster movie than anything. Because everything happened so quickly, it didn’t really feel like we saw a lot of characters with tight bonds or relationships. Like in a disaster movie, people are just thrown together and they bond out of fear. The cat was cute. I enjoyed the movie but the first movie had a lot more character and felt more imaginative. I still liked having a prequel and seeing how everyone started figuring things out.
