It feels like a cheap imitation of a Miyazaki film. All the cliches with none of the substance.
Then I saw it wasn’t directed by Hayao but rather his son, Goro, and went Ahhhh.

Really enjoyable!!! Dripping with intrigue and opulence…I will be thinking about Kathryn’s elegant brown wardrobe and that stunning townhouse for a while. The lighting, the ensemble, everything was almost too sexy for words! The themes of trust, communication, and faith were also especially endearing. I didn’t expect to walk away with such an admiration for George and Kathryn, but they’re truly role models for the level of faith and innocence one should bestow upon on their partner!

Heavy hitter!! This one really provided such a fresh take on the ‘breaking generational curses’ trope we’ve been seeing in recent years.
I’m also incredibly grateful that there wasn’t too much lingering on the ‘diaspora kid’ aspect as there could have been. Just enough information about Shula’s life back in the UK was provided to aid the plot, but never more.
