Despite what people might feel about this movie, I feel this movie was not a typical “Romance story” because it simply isn’t. To me, to put it simply, this movie is about two individuals who find a profound kinship with one another and connect through loneliness in Tokyo. To me, this can be seen as romantic but completely un-sexual, just innocent, but a romanic friendship of people who live completely different lives and understand that this random moment has to end at some point. A bitter sweet connection.
