    Barbie

    ★★½

Entertaining flick with beautiful production design and cinematography. At least as long we are in Barbie world. Superb performance of Robbie and Gosling.
It is NOT the promised feminist showcase film even though cast and Greta Gerwig itself try to portray it as such. Unfortunately, any social commentary on patriarchy lack substance and mostly serve just as cheap jokes. Cheap jokes, as they are very straightforward and easy to grasp but not even bold.
Don't try to view this as anything more than a fun summer blockbuster and you'll be happy, despite the annoying supporting roles (Mom and Daughter) and the obvious marketing agenda of Martell.

"Can you hear the music, Robert?"
Masterclass of Nolan, Murphy, Downey, Blunt, Göransson and Hoyte van Hoytema or however he is spelled. A movie you have to experience, as intended, in IMAX. It feels bigger than life itself. The subject of the movie makes you feel small as even Oppenheimer himself struggles to comprehend and deal with consequences of his creation.

  • Asteroid City

    Asteroid City

    ★½

Wes Anderson does not try to reinvent himself with this picture, as you recognise his style throughout Asteroid City. Unfortunately, the jokes don't land and his star-studded cast is not able to compensate for that. Missing the usual charm and an actual plot, Asteroid City is one of the biggest disappointments of 2023.
