    Captain America: Brave New World

Brave New World is set up to lose. It’s been 9 whole years since Civil War broke up the Avengers and ushered in a new, otherworldly phase for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It was also the last time we significantly saw General Thaddeus ‘Thunderbolt’ Ross as orchestrator of the Sokovia Accords, that ultimately led to the falling out between Steve Rogers and Tony Stark. Both of whom are now dead, and who left an MCU in shambles. There have been 11 films…

    The Brutalist

    ★★★★

In a small, overlooked scene about halfway into The Brutalist, Harrison Lee Van Buren, an eccentric millionaire that hired main protagonist László Thot to build him an excessive compound near his estate, bends over a hot cup of tea while hungover. He summoned László to join him, and László, not knowing it himself, is forced to oblige early in the morning.
‘I had a vision.’ Harrison says. ‘But I have carpenters in the forehead.’

    ★★★½

An expertly crafted retelling of the ‘72 Olympics hostage and murder of the Israeli sports team through the lens of a local group of ABC sports reporters. Lacks the edge to be really great, but through no fault of their own. More because these high adrenaline short-burst intense flicks are now more common than unique, and also shows like THE NEWSROOM and THE MORNING SHOW offer similar approaches.

It’s been 6 years since Bong Joon-Ho swept the Oscars with PARASITE, perhaps one of the best films ever made. Oh, how times have changed. Now I’m not going to sit here and pretend I know his entire ouvre, or his modus operandi, but I am extremely dissapointed in MICKEY 17 from a perspective where it is the follow-up of PARASITE.

Out with the carefully crafted political and societal satire, and in with on-the-nose anti-capitalism and Trumpian critisism, narrated by…

Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn)

In my opinion there's little to look forward to when it comes to DC movies.
There's still no public statement on Justice Leagues infamous #SnyderCut, all promising projects have been cut (JL2, Joker & Harley, Matt Reeves standalone Battfleck) and instead we got the lighthearted, silly, ultimately forgettable Shazam! and now we can add Birds of Prey to the list of bland, uninspired and lazy comic films.
With constant narration from Harley as opposed to a script that speaks for itself,…
