This was a wonderful film that manages to articulate truth through cinema not by attempting to destroy artifice like Rossellini or Ozu tried, but instead by making artifice apart of the diegesis, by becoming meta not in the brechtian way where we are distanced, but in a way where, finally aware of the mask, we can begin to see what’s in front of us. It’s such a simple story, and yet I feel like it says more than a thousand of those typical overwrought art films. I really recommend seeing this.
I really wish they cast a trans woman instead of Jared fucking Leto.
