Bong Joon Ho + Robert Pattinson in space seemed like an instant 5/5, but after watching I am unfortunately disappointed. Mickey 17 is probably BJH’s least subtle and most meandering film. It touches on themes around exploitation and capitalism, and on sci-fi/philosophic explorations of memory and the self. But it’s mostly about Trump and Musk, making the plot predictable. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, but there’s not much else that stands out. The sets and costumes are pretty generic,…
Really good B-movie. Jon whiplash and Queen’s gambit fall in love across a big pit. The exposition dialogue is pretty stiff and the plot is about what you expect, but the sets and monsters stand out. Also Anya Taylor Joy is really hot. If it had a more consistent tone or better pacing I’d mark it higher, but I enjoyed it overall.
Very safe and predictable, basically the same as the first. Best part of the movie is probably the mixed animation styles in a couple of scenes, since it’s the only time the movie does something fresh. Gonna be weird when this and Toy Story 7 are the only kinds of movie Pixar is allowed to make.
Also: Shout out to the man who loudly moaned when the Puberty alarm went off!
Very different from the other mad max movies. Change a couple things and thunderdome would make a good starwars movie. Worth your time, but don’t expect a repeat of MM2.
