I initially knew I was going to like this movie, and I did really like it, even as it kept puzzling me along the way. The style is dreamy and nostalgic feeling while also being atmospheric and tense, but never enough to tempt you to look away, it lures you in and commands you to watch while softly asking that you listen.
After ruminating on it, I understand it as a metaphor for disconnecting from our phones/screens. That we’re constantly…
My roommates and I watched this drunk but we all agreed that Patrick Wilson just directed the best insidious movie. Generational trauma resolved by a parent choosing to end the cycle of hurt? Check. Clever and intentional visual metaphors to connect the themes? Check. Using the same actors from the first insidious and all of them bringing an amazing performance? CHECK!!!! Seriously we were so impressed by the intent and the potential that Patrick Wilson saw and brought to life in Insidious The Red Door
