still wrapping my mind around the cgi... the worldbuilding... the attention to detail and the botany and the language and the environmentalist message. james cameron is unabashedly a genius, and with the whimsy of this movie, it makes sense that it was conceived in a dream.
watching this at 3am while sleep deprived and trying desperately to finish an essay produced an experience that felt like an awful fever nightmare that i do not want to ever live again. i know it's not entirely the fault of the film, but watching the hoaxters with its snake oil analogies of communism, circus sound effects, and disorienting clips of communist speeches which i couldn't tell were real or fake really made me empathize with the american public of…
screaming crying throwing up after watching this. loved it so much, on one hand the pureness of their love + the sapphic yearning made me cry. on the other hand, the 16mm film and the aesthetics (cigs and beer and vintage cars) made me seriously consider dropping out of university and rejecting modern life. now i can't stop thinking about how much i want to enter the universe that is carol. but 10/10 recommend it was an amazing film and one that really, for the first time, made me realize the uniqueness and poignance of the word "film".
