As I expected, the film reminded me a lot of Okja.
Making social commentary with a meta-ironic tone—walking the fine line between sharp critique and playful exaggeration—is a delicate and difficult task. There’s a sort of narrative uncanny valley where a film risks falling: that space where it fails to be either solemn and mysterious or overtly grotesque and caricatural.
In my opinion, Mickey 17 ends up right in that limbo.
