The beginning was intriguing and the villain's plan was suitably f****ed up for a hostage film, but those are the only positive aspects of a script that is incapable of reconciling horror and comedy while also featuring unlikeable characters, an embarrassingly atrocious cameo by Johnny Depp and the worst rubber monster suit I've ever seen. Kevin Smith proves as with his recent output his inability to pace dialogue.

I can't decide whether watching forty year old men play an extreme version of tag was hilarious or utterly dumb, although the fluctuating quality of the script might have reflected my contrasting thoughts. While overall passably entertaining,it definitely could have given us a better script for these talented actors, with Jon Hamm (aka Don Draper) possibly giving the least charismatic performance out of all the male leads while Isla Fisher unexpectedly might have been the highlight of this movie. Also, was the introduction of liver cancer necessarily the right way to end these "fun" misadventures?
Fun, high-octane fueled black comedy about parents attempting to kill their children could have been one of the most brilliantly insane premises of the year, but it unfortunately doesn't quite reach its full potential.
The obvious selling point is Nicolas Cage. Already known for playing unstable characters, he once again demonstrates why we love him so much as an actor with off-the-wall bizarre tendencies. Highlights include Cage tripping over a toy bus and smashing a pool table in a mid-life…
