  Campy movie in that the exaggeration and theatrics didn't land for me – the film had me confusedly laughing when it was trying to be serious and confusedly puzzled when it was being funny. Maybe that's the appeal? Overall, the tonal shifts threw me rather than enticed me, which really put me off.

  High key did not enjoy this film and I had a lot of problems with it — Kousuke’s storyline becomes irrelevant the minute it begins; Chiaki’s time travel reveal comes from nowhere, and his motivation to leap back (the painting) is similarly left field; character animation was sub-par, most noticeably in crowd scenes but sometimes even if a a character just stood at a wrong angle; Makoto’s love for Chiaki, realised only after he reveals he must leave, is superficial…
