I had mixed thoughts while watching this film, enjoyment but also some discomfort. The film works hard to put Zendeya firmly at the centre, not only metaphorically but also literally through blocking and various imagery. I felt the film was a bit of a homage to Whiplash especially in the way that the film ends, revealing the interdependent balance between the two players and their reliance on each other to achieve greatness.
