Besides being a very effective thriller (and a violent one even though it isn't as explicit as those kind of films usually are), this movie is an interesting discussion regarding the structure and expectations of a horror movie, the role of violence, its depiction and reception by the audience. Watching the theatrical release in a movie theater helped me disattach it from its huge legacy and zeitgeist. As a 80's sci-fi movie, this sequel is way superior than its first installment because it's able to develop a concise and compelling plot with complex and mature characters.
