the rise throughout the first act promised something special—a gargantuan effort of visual storytelling and scoring, capped off with the unforgettable upside-down Statue of Liberty shot. unfortunately, the second act left me feeling disappointed. still, I appreciate the commitment from Corbet and those who braved the runtime.

an unfortunate theatrical experience robbed what could have been an immersive and provocative look at power and family dynamics, sex, and corporate culture. here’s the unfortunate part: to what sounded like everyone else in the theater, this was a comedy show, and we were missing the punchline. were we? granted, there were several instances where i could muster a laugh, followed by a “what the hell is going on?” but otherwise, this was a plunge into the carnal depths of two deeply hurt people.
