I went in expecting a basic feel-good comedy and left emotionally compromised and crying-laughing at least twice. Instant Family does such a good job balancing humor with the real struggles and joys of foster care and adoption. It’s messy, sweet, chaotic, and full of love.
Mark Wahlberg and Rose Byrne have great chemistry as two very well-meaning but very overwhelmed new parents, and the kids? Absolute scene-stealers. Isabela Merced is especially great as Lizzy, holding her own with a perfect mix of sass and vulnerability.
It’s got some real moments—and some real lines I’ll be quoting forever.
