This film traumatised me when I was a kid, but as an adult I've learned to understand and appreciate the humour aspects of this film, and it's actually a pretty funny one. It could maybe even be seen as a parody of all these scifi films.
Also today I for some reason paid attention on the stop-motion bits more than before and gosh I love those. I hadn't even realized this film has a few scenes of those and not just CGI.
