  Maybe I'm too cynical for this.

  The portrayal of the natives is awful and shallow, showing them as child-like, wide-eyed people who know no evil in the world. Possibly that is what the Jamestown settlers thought but the movie never challenges that view. Of course the Algonquians had a complex society and of course they led wars, had conflicts and their own troubles. There was never any need to show them as a "Noble Savage" stereotype to let the viewer…
