A corny, small brained, zionist propaganda piece. Much better in stills than as a film, let alone a 3+ hour one.

Miserable time but Denzel rocked

It's fun to trace the genealogy of action and superhero flicks, and fun to see how many of them trace back to the reliably inconsistent Alex Proyas and his stylized vision of the inner city. Strokes of the Matrix, Dark Knight and even John Wick can be seen in sparing moments between the hammy writing and dramatic effects shots. There's not much separating this film from its ultra low budget contemporaries of the era, and perhaps that's why it's so fun. Its on-key score and art direction almost make up for its corniness. Almost.

The best movie I missed last year. A heartfelt slice of life that had me feeling stupid and embarrassed about all the same feelings Kayla feel's here, and at the same time understanding and empathizing so much better with the lives of others. It's nice to remember what it's like to be human.
