  Love Barbara downnnn, but I fear this may have suffered from the Hays Code a bit. The blatant cuts away from “risqué” parts in the acts are so awkward. And overall, I just wanted more. Makes me want to read the book, though!

  What a wild ass movie. Not at all what I was expecting, which was a generic horror pre-code flick based on the information WatchTCM supplied. Instead, it was just grimy, anxiety-inducing, and viscerally repulsive. Full of racist tropes and racist characters, though they’re not supposed to be good people so it tracks. I genuinely don’t feel comfortable nor even know what to really rate this film because I’m left kinda aghast at everything that transpired in the last hour and…
