Great adaption of the legendary musical. Cynthia Erivo shines as a convincing "Elphaba" with stunning vocals that were actually recorded on the set (with minor corrections in the post-production). The world of Oz is depicted in shiny colours that may upset some viewers, but fits the idea of Oz pretty well and pays hommage to the actual stage-production on Broadway. The use of pratical effects and CGI is well done, albeit the movie's length of 160min is a bit too long considering that there is still a follow-up to come. Still, witnessing all those iconic songs in a big theatre simply gives you chills...

Joker: Folie à Deux 2024
Fantastic camera use and esthetic pictures, amazing acting by Phoenix (respectable performance by Gaga), great selection and use of Jazz standards or songs from the Great American Songbook, the musical numbers illustrate Joker's mind as an intelligent meta-commentary, the whole movie works as a thoughtful commentary on the power of fantasy as well as the pitfalls of self and external perspective. Last but not least, props to Phillips decision to contrast part one with this curageous step in a totally different direction.
