When we leave certain places behind, we also often choose (intentionally or unintentionally) to leave behind the versions of us that inhabited those places. Returning to those places after a long period of time can be upsetting, jarring, or not entirely comforting. This film captures that experience so beautifully, and left me reminiscing about the people that I've left behind in so many places. We are always anchored to places through people. This is a wonderful, wonderful movie about the meaning of belonging.

Mangrove 2020
Ostensibly a story about Frank Crichlow and other members of the 1971 Mangrove Nine, this film seems just as relevant to contemporary discussions about the role of community-centered resistance against state-sponsored violence. Most notable are the impressive performances by Letitia Wright and Malachi Kirby.
