  Ridleys ability to capture the bloodlust, glory, theatrics and betrayal of the roman empire will never cease to amaze me. I care very little about whether this film is 'better' than the prequel and as much as I understand the criticism I think as a stand alone film this EATS. Okay yes some bits dragged a tad and honestly paul mescals performance was nothing to write home about but I still adored the grandeur and gore of it all. Joseph quinns captivating performance carried, the diva slay boots the house down
