Honestly the most jarring thing about this movie is the soundtrack. I didn't expect the John Williams-esque orchestra in a movie about a crazy machinist. I had heard a lot about this movie like Bale being really skinny for it and thought maybe that would make this movie cool, but it was okay. It has that early 2000s washed out grunge look and it feels a bit like a washed out Hitchcock movie with... Less interesting everything.

Barry Lyndon 1975
Not a big Kubrick guy, but his production design and composition are unquestionably outstanding. It was a good movie to watch when I was in the mood for some refined upper crust tales, but yeah admittedly it gets pretty boring when the lead actor tends to have one expression the entire movie. The most interesting part was midway through with the introduction of the Chevalier. The snooty montage of swindling in candle lit lounges? Yeah definitely interesting.

Raging Bull 1980
I ain't even tryna flame on this one. I just don't like it. There are scenes where it is shot very well, in slow intimate takes that both praise and satirize many aspects of sporting life, but it's glamour is cut down by bland dialogue mired in scenes that can be hard to follow. This stark contrast is not blended well and, to me, holds up two different pictures of the same boxer, when it feels like we're meant to see only one.
