Dracula 1931
A vacuum-sealed nightmare of unreality more upsetting than any vampire film of the modern age through making the framing, editing and performances as unnerving as humanly possible.
As for the sound design, the early Sound Era jankiness works surprisingly well with the film’s direction as nothing is scarier than the absence of sound in the face of unknowable horror.
