Firefly 2023
Was somewhat disappointed with this one. The story and pacing are strong, and Dulay’s direction is clear with Firefly. The cinematography and sound design are surprisingly beautiful. Every scene where Alessandra de Rossi is in is captivating and natural. The whole film is meant to feel like a children’s book, and it does.
But the film is riddled with cliche plot points, overused exposition-by-narration-through-an-interview-done-in-the-future-just-to-make-the-whole-film-a-flashback, and really disposable supporting characters with dialogue you’d only expect to hear from television. The Wizard…
