Wiktor Grodeckis documentaries suffer from a very phony empathy for their subjects. He wants you to feel horrified and saddened by these boys experiences yet seemingly can't take them seriously himself, like in one scene where a boy is talking about how a hustler cannot possibly be straight, then it cuts to a straight hustler who says he's had sex with 200 men but only 4 girls.indulgences in easy ironies like this make me ask: at what point exactly does purportedly humanitarian filmmaking become lurid reality television?
