Lost Highway 1997
at certain points this felt like i was marnie being subjected to booth jonathan’s tv torture chamber.
i ultimately enjoyed the latter half but the first 45 minutes was so tonally monotone that it knocks off a whole star. i learned today that i kinda hate a fade to black transition.

i'm a fan of dream stories/dreamscapes so i'm disappointed i didn't like this one more. the story was shaky, characters were muddled, and major plot points felt obvious yet still unearned. the animation and editing was incredible... i really wish this was what i imagined it to be after that opening sequence.

Barbie 2023
it didn’t need to be a feminist movie but it decided to be and then failed to deliver on every front. you can find more interesting commentary on womanhood in a cosmopolitan magazine from the mid 2000s. and honestly just offensive that ken is the most compelling character. incoherent messaging that didn’t even seem to believe in itself.
tldr - a sloppy libfem amalgamation of the lego movie, enchanted, and legally blonde (all three of which were much more successful)
